Media interview skills for science researchers and industry
Have you been invited onto a podcast and you don’t know what to say? Are you unsure how to talk about your work to the press?
I’ve interviewed hundreds of scientists for podcasts and videos, and been interviewed myself for news outlets and national radio. I’ll teach you what producers are looking for from their guests so they’ll want to book you for their next show.
We’ll practise how to answer questions with authenticity and emotion, making listeners connect to you as a person. For smaller groups, we’ll also hone your narrative skills so you know the best way to deliver your message. And I’ll share what you should prepare in advance so you can feel confident on the day.
Please note, this training will not cover crisis PR or dealing with hostile media.

Sell your message with storytelling
Whether you’re pitching to investors, looking for collaborators at networking events or raising your brand’s profile online, you need to make people care about your company.
We understand the world through stories, making it easier for our brains to process and retain information. By using one of the most tried-and-tested narrative arcs, you can turn your company into a hero and leave your audience wanting to know what happens next.
You’ll learn how to introduce your company with impact using a narrative framework. We’ll practise how to tailor your story to different audiences and how to use emotional hooks to keep them listening. And I’ll teach you how to use language to create images that stick in the mind.

Speak with confidence, clarity and authenticity
Giving a talk in front of an audience is a scary prospect for many people. This training will give you the tools you need to communicate your science with clarity and authority while remaining true to yourself.
We’ll first cover what to say - how to use language, storytelling, emotional hooks and imagery to make sure your audience understands your message.
We’ll then cover how to say it - pacing, body language, intonation and emotional expression to make sure your audience care about you and your work.
You’ll get the opportunity to put it all into practise by speaking in front of the group and received personalised feedback. You’ll leave with the confidence to stand in the spotlight and have your voice be heard.
